Abbiamo appreso, da fonti attendibili, che oggi venerdi 10 gennaio le
autorità cinesi esamineranno l'appello presentato dai due patrioti
tibetani, Tenzin Delek Rinpoce e Lobsang Dhondup. Ci sono forti
timori che, nonostante gli interventi di molti governi, le loro
condanne a morte verranno confermate. Le condizioni di salute del
Rinpoce sono peggiorate a causa delle torture subite, le fonti
riportano inoltre che Rinpoce ha iniziato il 6 gennaio uno sciopero
della fame dopo aver ricevuto una visita di due ufficiali del Governo
Centrale cinese ai quali ha detto di non voler rispondere alle loro
domande, dato che essi non erano interessati a cercare la verità
negandogli un giusto processo. Ai due tibetani infatti è stata negata
la possibilità di avere dei difensori indipendenti, due eminenti
avvocati di Pechino, già difensori del dissidente cinese  Wei
Jingsheng, non hanno avuto il permesso di rappresentarli. Questo
fatto dimostra che non ci sono prov! e contro i due tibetani.

Dear Governor:

I am deeply concerned about the treatment of Tenzin Delek Rinpoche (A
An Zha Xi) and Lobsang Dhondup (Luo Rang Deng Zhu ) who were
sentenced to death on December 2nd in Sichuan
Province.

I have heard reports that Rinpoche has been tortured while in custody,
and that his health is now quite poor.  He is being denied
independent legal representation, which makes it appear that there is
inadequate evidence to justify the accusation that has been leveled
against him.

Tenzin Delek Rinpoche is a widely respected Buddhist teacher, who has
often taught that people must resolve their differences without
violence.

Please use your leadership to ensure that Tenzin Delek Rinpoche and
Lobsang Dhondup are not tortured for the rest of their time in jail,
and that they are given adequate medical treatment.  Further, I call
on you to ensure that Tenzin Delek Rinpoche and Lobsang Dhondup are
gi! ven access to independent legal counsel and a fair appeal
hearing.  As it appears that they are not guilty as charged, I expect
that their appeals will be upheld and that they will be released
promptly.
